Good morning everyone!
This weekend marks a day that is rich in South Dakota tradition, the opening weekend of the ringneck pheasant! Those of us who live in South Dakota, hunters or non-hunters feel the impact of this week either through the fellowship with friends or family, or simply through the economic spike in brings to our state.
One thing is for sure there isn’t many weekends that live up to a standard of tradition like this one does. The feeling of going on your first pheasant hunts as a young child are still replicated in those decades later. There are many terms and slang spoke throughout the weekend and many ways to hunt the bird, one of the most common is to use blockers. Blockers are several guys you wait at the end of the field to keep birds from flushing out without the opportunity of someone in the hunting party getting a shot, while the rest of the hunters walk towards them from the other end of the field. This method works extremely well, but requires all the hunters to be mindful of where their barrels are facing. One rule of thumb is that everyone keep their shots high and keep aiming up!
I love that term, keep aiming up! It doesn’t just apply to pheasant hunting, but in our everyday life! In your day to day work, keep aiming up! In everything you do, bring a great attitude and keep aiming up!
Have a great week everyone!
I press on towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Jesus Christ
