In 2010 I was lucky enough to draw a South Dakota Black Hills rifle elk tag. I knew that this is a very coveted tag and I might not be able to ever draw again so I decided that I wanted to be in the best possible shape that I could be in for this hunt.
I have known Jordan for almost 10 years and became friends almost immediately with him. I knew that Jordan had a fitness program that dealt specifically with hunters, so I got ahold of him and asked him if he could help me out. It has been such a tremendous opportunity being able to work with yourself and Run2Gun! My name is Jared Thomas, I am 24 and have always been athletic and an avid hunter. While in college I was on the track team and didn’t have as much time for hunting anymore, but my physique was pretty good from track, so when I did get to go into the wild I didn’t notice quite how physically demanding it was. After graduation, once I was no longer a collegiate athlete, I started to notice I was getting out of shape. I was gaining weight and NOT the good kind of weight. I was changing from fierce to flab. I knew I needed to do something for my life, AND my hunting, was going to suffer. Over the summer I had started to exercise more and be a little more active, but it wasn’t making much of a difference. Then I moved from Mitchell, SD to Hill City, SD, which is quite a bit different in elevation, and terrain. Where I was used to hunting plains and fields I would be hunting in mountains and hills. I tried to go off on my own knowledge of exercising and working out but I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted and was finding it hard to stay faithful to a regiment.
