Monday Minute “Who Are You Accountable To?”

Good Morning!

It’s officially summer! I hope everyone kicked it off and had a great weekend!

Wednesday of last week, it was almost 10pm, and I had to get up at 5am to start training clients. The day was filled with obstacles to just take the day off, but despite those lingering thoughts, I was able to make the right decision and get in my training. During the session I thought to myself, “How was this so easy when I was in high school/college?” Training as hard as possible was the ONLY option, and NEVER taking one drill off or giving a set of squats half energy. It was 110% all the time!

Don’t get me wrong, I still try and do everything with 110%, but that doesn’t mean it’s not difficult to want to slack a little bit or to hide from the pain of your last set of squats from time to time. It really got me thinking about why it was so easy then, and more difficult now. Who am I accountable to? No one is watching, I could easily not push myself.

In High School and College I had a coach I was accountable to, I had a team I was accountable to. It was vital to our success to always push yourself as hard as possible. My mistake Wednesday night was thinking I was an Individual to my efforts. Thinking I was only doing that workout for me and my success. It was the wrong mindset, I am accountable to more than that. Now it is vital to my success to push myself as hard as possible for my faith, my family, and those searching for inspiration. I still have a team that needs me to give 110% and so do YOU! Trust me, you do!

This week remember who you are accountable to. It must start with your decision to take control of your actions and give 110%.

Monday Minute “What A Workout Really Is”

Hey Everyone! I hope your weekend was great! It’s really starting to feel like summer! We spent the weekend filming some bow fishing action up in the north east corner of the state, shot a lot of fish and scored a pretty good sun burn!

A few weeks ago I had a buddy of mine send me a text, it said, “Hey man, I don’t tell you this enough, but thank you for teaching me how to work out! I love it, it’s my get away and I don’t feel so worthless anymore.”

His text really got me thinking about how simple exercise can have such a positive impact on our everyday life. it made me remember what a workout really is. A workout is just how my buddy described it! It’s a get away, time spent focused on just you. There is really no other time in the day like that. A workout gives back so much to you if you allow it. It’s a revival session.

A workout is what it is guys, you don’t have to eat, drink and live fitness to reap the benefits of health and wellness. Enjoy your workouts and have fun! Work hard, and great things will happen, that is what a workout really is. It doesn’t have to be about ripped abs, selfies and supplements. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to have any of those things to be healthy.

If you are stressed about getting back in the workout scene because you feel you have to “live it,” or can’t “keep up.” You don’t need to feel that way, just take the step to start being active, to start making exercise a habitual routine in your everyday life. Positive things will happen, I promise!

Monday Minute “Celebrate Your Abilities”

Happy Monday!!

Last week I touched on my encounter I had with Bryce, a handicapped archery hunter with a passion for life. He changed my mindset, and to helped me realize never to complain about a workout, more importantly never to complain about having the ability to workout.

Think about that…the ability to workout. I am capable of training however I want on any given day, and so are most of us. Even outside of training, most of us are able to do almost anything we set out to do because we are physically and mentally capable. We are gifted with great abilities from our creator.

This week, take a minute and reflect on how GREAT your abilities are, you are blessed to be able to go to work, provide for your family, set positive examples in your community, live in America and the list goes on and on! After realizing how awesome this is, Celebrate your abilities! Celebrate them because you should be pumped about sharing your gifts with others!

It truly is pretty awesome guys! Next time you complain about something, stop and think how lucky you are to be able to do what you do!

Monday Minute “A Man Named Bryce”

Good Morning!

Have you ever stopped and thought about how much you hate it when you are taken advantage of? Think back to a time when it has happened to you, it can be a hurtful thing. Now stop and think if you have ever taken advantage of someone, well unfortunately we all have at some point….Now stop and think, do you take advantage of anything on a daily basis? Chances are you do, here’s my story:

Almost two years ago this week I was sitting in the gym, I had a break between clients, and needed to get a tough leg workout in. It had been a long several weeks of working long hours, training hard for the upcoming season, and a long list of other things. I was sitting around, moping, half-a**ing my workout. I was whining negative thoughts in my head, I was being pathetic. As I sat down on the leg extension machine I saw out the window of the gym an older Ford Explorer pull up in the handicap parking spot. A man pulled himself out reached around and grabbed on to the truck above the doors and pull himself to the back of his rig, worked himself to the back door, popped it open, and pulled out a wheelchair. He sat down in it and started wheeling his way down the side walk into the gym, I noticed he was wearing a Bear Archery hoody, instantly I felt something within me change.

I watched this man start killing it in the gym, no excuses, was just getting after it with the best of his abilities. Finally I approached him and told him I loved his hoody and how my dad introduced me to archery with a Bear bow years back. He told me about how he was an avid archer and was working on getting into better shape. I learned his name was Bryce and after he left I got back after my workout. On that day I promised myself I would never complain about killing a hard leg day, or taking advantage of my abilities. Bryce helped straighten my thought process that day. He as an example made me a better person through a choice I made in that moment.

I haven’t seen Bryce in almost 2 years, I hope our paths cross again someday so I can thank him.

Monday Minute “Set A Standard”

Good Morning everyone!

It’s Memorial Day! A day we should all be grateful for and thankful for. Soldiers all across the country have sacrificed for us, for their families, and for our country, they have set a standard to commitment…

That is what I want to talk about this morning, Setting a standard in your life, To make it clear, I am by no means trying to compare our soldiers and veterans commitment to our everyday goals in life, but using it as an example to strive for. Reaching our goals and dreams in life will take nothing less than true commitment, there will be struggle, but with that comes growth. It will take self sacrifice.

There will be days you do not believe in yourself, there will be days you slip up and feel you have gone backwards and lost everything, there will be days you feel nothing but alone and want to quit, but since will have set a standard in your life, you will rise past these trials and prevail.

Monday Minute-“Driving Factors”

Good morning all!

This week I want to talk about Driving Factors in our lives.  I talk about goals and dreams daily to my clients, friends and family, and weekly here on the Monday minute blog and emails. Why do we have these great goals and dreams and what motivates us to work for them? What is the driving factor that directs us daily to sacrifice for them?

The Good, The Bad:  Unfortunately not all of the driving factors in our life may be beneficial. They still may help us achieve the goal, but did you achieve it the right way?  The fact of the matter is there are good and bad driving factors.  Do you want to achieve your goals and dreams only to make money? Gain fame? Attain power?  Driving factors are often motivated by greed, and it happens to the best of us.

I remember my Sunday school teacher talking years ago about doing the right thing, and how great it is that we can always choose to the right thing!  But quickly making my small Sunday school class of 3 teenage boys think deeper….and told us, it doesn’t have the same meaning if you did the right thing, but for the wrong reasons… I think about this more often then not, especially as I grow Run2Gun.

Join me this week in keeping your driving factors towards your goals and dreams positive and sincere, make sure you are chasing what you are after for the right reasons.

Monday Minute-“Sitting On The Fence”

Good morning everyone!

I hope you all had a great weekend and wonderful Mother’s Day!

I got in a good conversation this week with a client about true commitment. We discussed the importance of chasing greatness and what it truly takes to accomplish it. Truly you have two choices, to be all in, or…you guessed it, NOT all in. This conversation led me to this:

In the fitness world I always hear people say, “Well, I just want to maintain.” I honestly have no idea what that means. You have two choices right? one, to go all in, or two, to NOT be all in, which means you aren’t fully committed. It’s an out, an excuse used because of a fear to commit to something great, which takes work.

Sitting on the Fence: This brings me back to “I just want to maintain,” how exactly does one do this? I seriously don’t know, if you do, tell me. If I were to approach my life, my goals, my dreams by sitting on the fence I’m on that line that separates “all in” and “not all in” Does such a line even exist?

To me, there is no such thing as sitting on the fence, It is something only imaginable….by having the mindset of “I want to maintain” you are only placing yourself in the boundary of “not all in” or not fully committed. You are either getting better or you are going backwards. I challenge you this week to change sides if you aren’t “all in” escape the boundaries of “not all in” because those boundaries are tiny, unlike the endless pastures of opportunity of being “all in”

Monday Minute-“It’s Easy To Make $$$”

Happy first week of May!

How have you been? I hope you woke up this morning excited about your week and what you are going to accomplish. I know Mondays can often bring about that typical feeling of “I hate Mondays” or “just another day, another dollar.” Really it’s just another day right? Another day to to make money….is how it’s often thought of. Well It’s easy to make money, it’s a lot harder to make a difference….

Isn’t that the truth? Taking on your week, to make a difference. You are already scheduled for your work hours, how can you make a positive difference on those around you? I’m challenging myself with this process, to make a difference. It doesn’t have to be a huge undertaking, maybe smiling as you walk down the halls at work to all your co-workers, holding the door for someone at the grocery store, or helping your wife do work around the house. Take on your week and remember It’s easy to make money, it’s a lot harder to make a difference…and see what you can do with it!

Monday Minute-“Train To Be A Champion”

Good morning everyone!

There is a term my friend Austin and I use quite often during our training sessions that motivates us, it’s “Train to be a champion” This past week during a tough workout I thought to myself, “Train like a champion.” and it instantly made me stop and starting thinking. Training “like a champion” and training “to be a champion” are two completely different things. Here’s why I think so:

Training to be a champion: This is the term we use quite often to get hyped up for a big set in a training session or to motivate each other when we are tired. It really does mean a lot to us. In our minds to reach the mountain top you have to train to be a champion, BUT to stay on the mountain top you have to keep training to be a champion. You can’t stop. It’s a day in, day out grind. It’s a mindset to bring the best effort you have because you have the will and courage to be a champion everyday!

Training like a champion: Easy to confuse this to mean the same thing. If I’m training like a champion I’m working just as hard right? because why not replicate training like someone who has once been a champion? That’s exactly why this term means nothing to me. Someone who was once a champion, doesn’t motivate me. The thought of being a champion once won’t push me to my breaking point today, to challenge my comfort zone. They are no longer atop the mountain.

You see, training to be a champion is continual work, and inward drive to stay atop the mountain. I mentioned we use it often in our training sessions, but remember the reason we train, it’s not for a silly plastic trophy. It’s to be a champion in life. Now go Train To Be A Champion!

Monday Minute-“Everything To Lose”

Good morning all!

This week I want to quickly talk about our mind sets. here is my example:

For the past couple of years I have set a mantra for myself, last year it was “Enjoy the process, love the journey.” It initially was to help get me through the filming season of the show, but ended up correlating into every aspect of my life. It helped keep my mindset in the right place. This year my new mantra is “Everything To Lose” and here is why…

Everything To Lose mindset: At some point we have all probably had a situation where we said, “well why not, I have nothing to lose.” This really got me thinking this year as I was setting goals for myself. I run what I call a micro business trying to grow into a small business. Most of the decisions my wife and I have to make no longer have the mindset of “Well…we have nothing to lose.” Quite the opposite. I have found I actually hate that saying! All businesses have to make hard decisions, ones that run completely on faith, and those that seem to have higher risk value than reward. It seems for us, most of those decisions always have that higher risk than reward factor, but every time the risk involves trying to help or impact more people, and somehow it works out.

The Mindset of Everything To Lose really means, we are going to go about everyday to make our goals happen, we are going to work hard and commit to the process, knowing if this chance fails, we could lose those dreams, but here’s the difference of working like this and not…when you have this mindset, and do fail, you wont have any regrets.

Everything To Lose works for us, and it can work for you too!

Kill it this week! At work, in the gym, at home with your families! Give it your best effort as if you have everything to lose!
